ERNESTO “CHE” GUEVARA

My inlaid version of what must be one of the most recognisable, iconic images in existence. Che does also seem to be a very popular subject for many marquetry/ inlay pieces, so I suppose it was about time I did my own version. Beli sapwood and ebony is used here with walnut for the collar and spalted oak for the hair highlights, the background is spalted ash

Size: 164 x 164 x 13mm

ALBERT EINSTEIN July 2021

This Albert Einstein design is beli sapwood and maple with spalted oak against a ebony background

Size: 164 x 164 x 13mm

ALBERT EINSTEIN

This Einstein design is cut from beli sapwood with maple hair

Size: 164 x 164 x 13mm

MUHAMMAD ALI

This design is based on an early black & white photo of Cassius Clay taken before he became Muhammad Ali. Mahogany and abony are used here with maple glove highlights and a spalted maple background

Size: 164 x 164 x 13mm

SURFER June 2022

I tried to capture some of the sense of movement of the water in this inlay, maple, quilted maple and birdseye maple are used for the wave

Size: 164 x 164 x 13mm

SURFER July 2022

This second surfer is surrounded by a maple, quilted maple, birds-eye maple and ebony wave, as used in the design above

Size: 164 x 164 x 13mm

PETER COOK

This inlay was based on a black and white photo originally and I'm really happy with how my coloured version has turned out. You can see in the gallery that I was able to use the natural knot in the beli sapwood for the mole on his face instead of cutting one out

Size: 175x 85x 10mm

FRANK DREBIN

Inlay of Leslie Neilson as Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant Police Squad!...Shirley Not!

Particularly pleased with the face on this inlay, none of the detail is drawn or engraved, it's all cut with a saw

Size: 175x 85x 10mm

BILL HICKS

The late, great Bill Hicks. Beli, bog oak and bubinga inlaid into ebony

Size: 175x 85x 10mm

SHAOLIN MONK

A selection of yew is used along with maple in this design

Size: 175x 85x 10mm

OCTOPUS BANJO HEADSTOCK

This colourful octopus inlay was a commissioned to go onto a vintage banjo, the instrument originally had a maple neck and headstock with no head veneer at all. I set this octopus into an ebony background then inlaid that into the maple headstock giving it the appearance of being bound with maple
