HARRIS HAWK May 2021

Around one hundred pieces in this harris hawk design, a variety of rosewood is used with ebony for the feathers. The beak and face sections are yew sapwood, imbuia, beech and maple, the eye is yew and the background is spalted maple

GOLDEN EAGLE

Over one hundred separately cut pieces went into this golden eagle design, Madagascan and Indian rosewood are used for the feathers along with maple and dyed maple for the face, beak and eyes. The background is highly figured spalted maple framed in quilted mahogany with an ebony border. Size: 164x 164x 13mm


PARROT 2

This complex, colourful parrot inlay is cut from some rich, red padauk along with yew, maple, beli sapwood, ovangkol and bog oak all inlaid into an ebony background and framed in figured mahogany with an ebony border. Size: 164x 164x 13mm


PARROT

This parrot inlay uses the same colourful combination of woods as the one above, I used some blue dye on maple for the blue wing feathers. Size: 164x 164x 13mm


BALD EAGLE OVER WATER

Ebony, bog oak and maple make up this bald eagle inlay. Beli, quilted maple and spalted oak are used in the background. the inlay is framed with quilted mahogany with an ebony border. Size: 164x 164x 13mm

This barn owl inlay contains fifty one separate pieces and took around seventeen hours to complete. I used a combination of various shades of maple along with some lacewood for the owl itself, the background is spalted oak

WOODPECKER

When working, I like to try to match the natural colours of wood as closely as possible to the subject of the inlay - I'm really pleased with how this series of greater spotted woodpecker inlays have turned out

Maple, ebony, beli, bog oak and some deep red padauk make up the body, he's perched on an english walnut branch against a spalted oak background with an ebony border

KINGFISHER HEADSTOCK INLAY

This commission provided me with the opportunity to use a combination os abalone, pearl and wood together to create this beautiful and very colourful kingfisher perching on a branch

I used some Brazilian and Indian rosewood with ebony for this Harris hawk design, the beak is yew and the background is some beautiful spalted oak
